Police join firefighters to spread festive cheer

POLICE have revealed that officers from Widnes and Warrington joined forces with  local firefighters to deliver hampers to the vulnerable and elderly over the festive period.

PC Cameron Taylor and Sgt Lee Hillyard began doing hamper deliveries in 2016 and this Christmas expanded their charitable efforts to include Warrington.

Morrisons, Sainsburys, and B&M Bargains  donated the goods, which colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue helped deliver.

On each visit a police officer or PCSO and a fire safety advocate attended the addresses of repeat vulnerable and elderly victims of crime and provided them with a hamper or stocking which included food, warm gloves and purse bells.

They also got  NHS “stay well in winter” literature and in house thermometers, window security stickers and Christmas card from the local police officers

While there, the officers carried out a home security check while the advocate conducted a home safety check.

PC  Taylor said: “We understand that being a victim of crime or anti-social behavior can have a significant impact on someone’s life, and at this time of year it is particularly important for all the community to do their best to make people who are isolated and vulnerable feel safe.

“I hope that by working in partnership with the Fire Service, Cheshire Cares and local shops this Christmas, we  showed we’re thinking about victims and bring some reassurance to those who may be vulnerable in our community.”
