Council wins top award for a healthy workplace

WARRINGTON Borough Council has won a top award for its commitment to the health and wellbeing of its workers.
It has been awarded Workplace Wellbeing Charter accreditation following an assessment by the Health@Work organisation.
The charter takes a holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of the workforce, with assessments looking at leadership, culture and communication, as well as areas of health and wellbeing such as physical activity, alcohol awareness, smoking cessation and mental health.
The council gained “excellence” level for work done in relation to absence management and smoking cessation and “achievement” level for leadership, mental health, physical activity and advice on alcohol consumption.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, lead member for public health and wellbeing, said: “This accreditation is formal acknowledgement of all the excellent work that has gone into the health and wellbeing programme for council employees.
“But the work doesn’t stop here – we will continue to strive for ‘excellence’ in all of the accreditation categories.”
The Health@Work final accreditation report, stated: “Achieving the Workplace Wellbeing Charter shows Warrington Borough Council are forward thinking in cascading wellbeing practices throughout the organisation and demonstrate this ongoing commitment.”
