HOSPITALITY and catering students at Warrington Collegiate are putting their talents to good use through the creation of their very own recipe book, in aid of St Rocco’s Hospice.
Filled with step-by-step recipes of scrumptious delights – including mains, sweets and breads – the ‘Live Love Food’ cookbook has been produced by level 3 learners as part of a collaborative project aimed at embedding English and maths skills into their technical qualifications.
Andrew MacLeod, Curriculum Leader for Hospitality & Catering said: “The cookbook is the culmination of a year’s worth of hard work and dedication from our students. The recipes and student reviews tell the story of the journey our students have been on during their time at Warrington Collegiate.”
Student Russell Wood, who will be working full time alongside Michelin-starred chef Aiden Byrne at his Manchester House restaurant from this summer, added: “For me to be able to leave college and go out into the industry with a cookbook featuring my own recipes, it’s just incredible!”
Head of English, Elizabeth Draper, commented: “This project has been absolutely fantastic for our students and has given them an excellent opportunity to use their English and maths skills in a practical setting. We enjoy finding innovative ways to develop literacy and numeracy skills at Warrington Collegiate and this cookbook is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when everyone works together.”
All proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will go to St Rocco’s Hospice.
Elizabeth added: “This is a truly wonderful cookbook and to be able to raise money for such a worthwhile cause is the icing on the cake.”
