Cricketer in hospital as Grappers crash to heavy defeat

A YOUNG cricketer ended up in hospital after being injured as Grappenhall crashed to a heavy defeat at home to Timperley.
Albert Pennington went for a difficult caught-and-bowled chance while bowling as Timperley posted a solid 209-5.
He suffered a serious hand injury and spent the night in hospital.  Allthough he returned to the club the following day, his hand all-strapped up, he is now waiting further check-ups this week before a prognosis is known.
Aussie Owen Lynch took 3-41 for Grappenhall after taking over from Pennington mid-over.
Grappenhall struggled against the accurate line and length of Timperley’s Cheshire bowler Jack white, who picked up seven wickets, blowing away the top order. Only Peter Barnes, with a gritty 41, offered any resistance as Grappers were dismissed for 93.
A remarkable game at Stockton saw Grappenhall 2nd claim an unlikely victory after being bowled out for a meagre 114 inside 42 overs James Jenkinson, with 25 and Tim Sykes with 23 were the top scorers.
But when the home side batted they were rolled over for 93, Jenkinson taking 4-4, Joshua Hayes 2-15 and Matt Titchard 2-21.
Grappenhall 3rd  also won a low-scoring game at home to Nantwich. Jenkinson, playing his second game in two day, took five wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 84.
Grappenhall got off to a shakey start losing two wickets for two runs, but Jenkinson completed a remarkable weekend by hitting 34 not out as Grappenhall won by three wickets with 20 overs remaining.
Warrington went down by six wickets at Widnes, despite posting a respectable 210-8.  Johan Els hit 53, Brad Roden 42, Mike Rudd 42 not out and Brad McIntosh 28. But on a small ground, the total was not enough and Widnes chased down the runs with five overs to spare. Ashley Scholes took 2-52,  1-29 and McIntosh 1-37.
The 2nd XI game at Walton Lea went Warrington’s way, bowling out the visitors for 96. Ryan Swart took 3-28, Rishav Manta 4-7 and Chia Gadipalli 2-18. Warrington cantered to an eight wicket win, Tom Hughes hitting 44 and Harley Barratt 31 not out.
Warrington 3rd beat Port Sunlight by five wickets after bowling them out for 144.  Paolo Manfredi took 3-27, Dave Lee 2-30 and Ben  McCarthy 2-35.
Opener Shivas Jogi hit 41 before retiring hurt and Manfredi hit 35 not out as Warrington totalled 145-5.
Warrington 4th won by seven wickets after dismissing Appleton 4th for 123.  Mans Naseem took 6-22.
In reply Warrington lost an early wickets but then Andy Goodfellow, 75 not out and Alex Green, 22, put them on the road to victory.
Lymm Oughtrington Park won by four wickets after dismissing Barnton for 135.
Away at Woodford, Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd  ground out a draw after restricting the home side to 165-9. Shovan Chatterjee taking 4-42 and Robert Hutton 3-39. Lymm were 135-7 at the close, Aarvomd Pillar 49 and Jake Hughes 36.
Appleton strolled to 103-1 after bowling out the usually powerful Martime batting line-up for 102. Aamir Rashid took 4-7 and James Derbyshire 3-24. Bob MDonald was on 40 not out when Appleton reached their target.
Stretton hit 160, Nabeel Shazada 29, E Malik 28 and I Mohammed 28 not out before dismissing Wilmslow Wayfarers for 95. A Zubain hit 3-19
Appleton 2nd inflicted a heavy defeat on Kingsley after Josh Coghlan hit an unbeaten 106 out of the home side’s 212-5. Kingsley were bowled out for 122, Joe Cooper taking 3-25, Andy Thomas 3-23 and Michael Cumberland 3-15.
Glazebury hit a respectable 223-8 at Hurst Lane, Dave Acton top-scoring with 89, Paul Warhurst 35 and Tom Wilkinson 33. But their bowlers could make little impression on visiting Knutsford who replied with 224-5.
Away at Bowdon Vale, Glazebury rolled over the home side for 62, Sean Caine taking 4-19 and Jordan Carroll 4-29.
Glazebury also found runs hard to get but skipper Wayne Hargreaves, 22 and Carroll, 15 not out, took them to 63-8.
