RAIN didn’t dampen the spirits of the 1,100 primary school children who took part in the annual Warrington School Sports event.
The biggest multi-sport event in the borough’s calendar, it was led by Warrington School Sports Partnership and LiveWire and took place at Orford Park.
This year, the theme was “Road to the Gold Coast” to build on the
enthusiasm for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
Children from years three and six took part in variety of sports, including athletics, golf, mini-tennis, cycling, orienteering, volleyball, and lacrosse.
The aim of the event is to provide new and exciting opportunities for young people to enjoy sport socially and competitively and have the opportunity to find out more about the fantastic range of sports clubs and activities on offer across the borough.
Students from Priestley College, Warrington Collegiate, and Thomas Boteler CE High School made a huge contribution to the making the event possible alongside developing their skills as future leaders.
Staff from The Wolves Foundation and other sports clubs across Warrington also supported the event.
James Birdsey, strategic manager at LiveWire, said: “It was fantastic to be involved in another successful school sports event.
“This event is a fixture in Warrington’s annual school sports calendar, with children from primary schools across the town looking forward to it each year.
“Unfortunately, this year, the weather wasn’t on our side. But this didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and the children showed more passion and energy than ever to take part in their favourite sports.”
