Villagers can show solidarity with the people of Manchester

VILLAGERS at Stockton Heath are able to show their solidarity with the people of Manchester following the bomb atrocity thanks to an initiative by the parish council.
Council chairman Cllr Peter Walker said: “We received an email from a local resident who wanted to know if there was anywhere in the village where floral tributes could be placed.
“I knew about the tributes that had been placed at the Golden Gates in Warrington and the book of condolences at the Town Hall, but I realised it would be a good idea to have somewhere in Stockton Heath,
“Quite a few people from Stockton Heath were at the concert and wanted to show solidarity with Manchester.
“It was not always convenient for them to go into the city – and in the case of the younger ones their parents wouldn’t let them.
“So we decided the parish council should take the lead and place flowers at the villager cenotaph.”
Cllr Walker, deputy chairman Cllr Helen Dutton and the Vicar of St Thomas’s Church, the Rev Michael Ridley, observed a minute’s silence as they laid the flowers at the memorial.
The parish council is also to observe a minute’s silence at its next meeting on June 13.
