Home extension approved despite parish objection

PLANS for a rear, two-storey extension at an end-terrace house in Croft have been approved by Warrington planners despite an objection from the parish council.
The property is at Cornmill Court, Lord Street and the scheme also includes demolition of an existing rear outbuilding and construction of a new outbuilding.
A conservatory and small first-floor balcony at the rear will make way for a two-storey extension and new balcony.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee were told that during the court of the application, amending plans were received showing 1.8m high walls to the sides of the balcony, as suggested by officers in the interests of neighbour amenity.
Croft Parish Council believed the proposals would result in over development of the site and that a “considerable quasi dwelling” in the rear garden might not be aesthetically pleasing.
But officers said the extensions and alterations were acceptable in principle and would be in keeping with the existing character and appearance of the main building. Both the extension and the outbuilding would be at the rear of the property, would not be prominent within the street scene and would not affect the visual amenity of the area.
