A chance to take a trip aboard “The Danny”

VETERAN steam ship the “Daniel Adamson” is to make a four-day return visit to the River Weaver – following an extensive £3 million re-fit.
The Birkenhead built ship – affectionately known as “The Danny” – will be offering opportunities to cruise aboard in her full Art-Deco interior while feeling the beat of her twin steam engines.
Alternatively, visitors can simply go aboard the vessel static at her berth at Acton Bridge.
The Danny, built in 1903 and used as a troop carriage in World War 1,  is due to depart the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port at 11am on Friday, May 12 and undertake a three and-a-half hour trip to Acton Bridge.
Dan Cross, chairman of the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society, said: “A coach will then take you onto the Anderton Boat Lift, often referred to as the seventh wonder of the waterways, before returning you to your car at Ellesmere Port later in the day.
“The reverse trip will be made on Monday May 15.

On Saturday  Sunday, May 13 and 14, the vessel is open free of charge from 10am to 4pm when tour guides will show visitors around the vessel and her twin Art-deco saloons, engine room and boiler room and explain the vessel’s fascinating history, including how she was bought for £1 and saved from scrapping.
