WARRINGTON-based document management company Sharples Group is enjoying continued success – and directors are convinced it is largely due to a coaching programme they introduced a few years ago.
They believe group coaching has proved motivating for all the staff – and enhanced the leadership skills of the directors.
Director David Griffiths said: “We started the programme several years ago, whilst I was involved in a work based learning project as part of a degree I was studying at the time.
“I was working on a project ‘Delivering Business Strategy through Collaborative Leadership and Coaching’ and realised that it would be the perfect strategy for Sharples Group.
“It would complement the way we work, encourage a more collaborative approach which in turn would empower staff, enhance their potential and improve behaviour and performance, whilst raising the awareness of managers when dealing with daily issues, whether with staff or customers,”
Fellow director of the £3.2 million turnover business, Mark Brocklehurst, added “Large conglomerates have been using coaching for some time rather than the more traditional rigid appraisal approach. More and more SME’s are now recognising the value that a coaching culture can bring to the table.
“Group coaching has proved extremely motivating for all of us at Sharples and has enhanced both mine and David’s leadership skills.
“We currently have 27 employees and all of our team now feel they are an important part of the ‘Sharples family’ and are included in the way the company operates and moves forwards. I am sure it’s one of the reasons that we have such a low turnover of staff!”
