POLICE at Warrington today issued CCTV images of man they want to speak to following an armed robbery in the town.
Shortly before 6.30am on Friday  January 13, a man entered McColl’s convenience store on Greenwood Crescent, Orford.  through the main entrance.
He produced what appeared to be a handgun, demanding access to the safe.
CCTV Warrington-1Staff told him they were unable to open the safe, so he then demanded access to the till. After taking cash from the till, along with a quantity of tobacco, the offender then left the store via the main entrance.
He is described as being between 5ft 4 and 5ft 6 in height and wearing a high visibility vest with what appeared to be the word DONK written on the back. He wore dark clothing including a blue hoody up over his head and a black scarf covering his face. The man was believed to be carrying a handgun, although it was not discharged and it has not yet been established if the gun was real or an imitation.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Greenwood Crescent area at the time the incident took place and believes they may have seen an offender matching the description.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 130 of January 13..

  1. I’m sorry and this is not aimed at you David/Gary @Warrington Worldwide News BUT WHY has it taken 18 days for the police to release this info and the cctv stills? Surely it would have only taken an an hour at the very most to view the cctv and take a screen shot of the perpetrator ?
I for one knew about the robbery on the day it happened as it was posted on social media by members of the public and as such I alerted our local corner shop of yet another robbery, as there seemed to be a spate of them over the past month (this one ‘armed’ too), so they were on guard.
At the time they said they hadn’t heard anything about this one or been sent any warning regarding yet another incident although they were being extra vigilant anyway due to others they had heard about. I think the shop thought I’d either dreampt (spelling?) it or was being my usual paranoid self.
So this ‘armed’ robber is still at large then 18 days later and may have struck again or might do again ?
18 days on will people’s memories remember seeing someone dressed like that in a hoodie and high viz waistcoat with faded wording on the back?…will they remember his face that’s not shown in the stills?
I probably wouldn’t but might have done on the day or the day after.
Little rant over…sorry about that 🙁

  2. I agree with what DIZZY says, also, if somebody had seen the suspect, how reliable a witness would they be classed as in court given the time lapse between them seeing him and recognising him?
As it seems it was broad daylight when the crime was committed, how far could he have come or gone with his face covered with a scarf without someone thinking he looked suspicious? If he only pulled the scarf up when he was outside of the shop images of his face may have been captured by other CCTV cameras in the area.
Though given the usefulness of the CCTV images provided by the shop it’s doubtful any other CCTV images would be any better. For the safety of shop workers and customers isn’t it about time laws were passed to force shop owners to install and maintain adequate CCTV?
