POLICE have given an assurance that an investigation is going on into a number of alleged dog attacks in the Winwick area of Warrington.
They say they have received reports about the dog going back as far as February but that the dog has been examined by an expert and is not a banned breed.
However, the investigation is still ongoing and police will take appropriate action where necessary.
Yesterday (Friday) Warrington-Worldwide reported that residents were calling for action about the dog, an Irish Blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
As a result, a police confirmed they had been called to an incident involving two dogs in Radley Lane Winwick on Wednesday shortly before 5pm.
They said an Irish Blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Golden Labrador were being walked along Radley Lane when the Irish Blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier is believed to have bitten the golden Labrador. During the altercation, the owner of the Labrador sustained injuries to his hand.
Sergeant Paul Flynn said: “Police received a report back in February involving the same Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Officers investigated and followed the appropriate steps at the time.
“In May, following further concerns from the public, officers seized the dog for examination by an expert. The dog was confirmed not be a banned breed.
“We understand local residents are concerned following this second incident. Please be reassured that an investigation is ongoing, and police will take appropriate action where necessary.”
