Council opposes closure of any library in Warrington

APPLETON Parish Council has lodged strong objections to the closure of any library in Warrington.
Letters of objection have been sent to library operators LiveWire and Warrington Borough Council, who pay LiveWire an annual management fee to provide a library service.
This follows the monthly meeting of the parish council when a number of local residents attended to protest about the closures, proposed under a public consultation exercise held by LiveWire.
In a statement, the parish council said: “The planned closure of both Stockton Heath library and Lymm library will result in no library provision, other than a ‘lending locker’ in the South of Warrington and this is unacceptable.”
The parish council says it is concerned that there is no firm commitment for a “hub” in South Warrington, despite the proposals to reduce services.
Closing any library in Warrington will result in a loss of community facilities.
Stockton Heath Library provides free wi-fi access, computer access and printing and scanning facilities.
“There are no plans for any digital library in the South of Warrington and no plans for the replacement of the library service.
A consultation meeting takes place at Walton Hall on Tuesday, October 4 at 7pm and the parish council is urging members of the public to attend.
Meanwhile, LiveWire have extended the consultation period by 17 days until October 21 to give people more time to give their views.
