Former Netto store set to become a Sainsbury’s

THE former Netto store in Lymm village is set to become a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

The news has been welcomed by local councillor Sheila Woodyatt who says she will be delighted to see the back of the “tastleless” Netto sign.

“I still believe the site would have been much better for affordable housing because that is what we need in the village – not another supermarket.

“I find it strange that there will be one Sainsbury’s store within a mile of another Sainsbury’s store, but they must know what they are doing.

“We have to take the positives out of this in that we will get ride of the tasteless Netto sign and there are going to be 60 jobs created.

“Hopefully some of those who lost their jobs when Netto closed will be considered for employment.”

Cllr Woodyatt says she understands the new supermarket, unlike the one in the village, will sell other items as well as food.

Fellow local councillor Ian Marks added: “The village grapevine said that Sainsbury’s might move there and this has proved right. It’s good news that the purpose built building will not be empty for long. Of course there is now speculation about what might happen to the shop in the village centre?

The Netto site has the benefit of a free car-park and it is interesting that this move has come about at the same time as the Borough Council is proposing to do away with free parking on the village centre car-parks.”

The controversial Netto store, which opened as part of a joint venture with Sainsbury’s, closed recently after both parties agreed to terminate the partnership.

Romy Clay, Regional Acquisitions Manager for Sainsbury’s said: “We are delighted to announce our plans for a new Sainsbury’s in Lymm.

“We believe the store will bring a number of benefits to the community by providing investment and new jobs, support for local charities and schools and a high quality affordable food offer for local residents.”

The store is due to open towards the end of November and the existing store on The Cross will also remain open. The 7,000sq ft store will be open 8am-9pm Monday to Saturday, 10.30am-4.30pm Sunday. It will offer a wide range of food, as well as a selection of non-food items.

  1. “The news has been welcomed by local councillor Sheila Woodyatt who says she will be delighted to see the back of the “tastleless” Netto sign.”

And you wonder why the rest of the town thinks that Lymm is populated by snobs

  2. I’m actually sat here laughing at the comments made by Clr Sheila Woodyatt. Is she for real and does she ever think before she speaks? Her comments re this are not quite on a par with other comments made by her some years ago though where she blamed the falling birth rate in Warrington on a lack of midwives.
Surely it’s time for her to retire now…..lol

  3. Glad to see the comments others have posted. Clr Woodyatt wont be getting my vote next time there’s an election as: 1. I loved the Netto store, Sainbury’s will be ok, but not as good value as Netto was; and 2. the last thing we need is more houses! As others have said, think its time for her to consider retirement.

  4. It is people like Clr Woodyatt who give Lymm a bad name.
In this day and age there are no us and them. Even though people like the Clr and the Government wish it were so.
Living in Lymm does not give you social standing, in fact the complete opposite,.It has been my experience that people who walk around with their nose in the air, have smelly feet.

The old building… well they could recycle it as home or a club for retired snobs. But would they all fit in?
Clr Sheila Woodyatt could be the president and founding member. If we can get her nose back in the present time where God made all men equal.
