The Mayor of Warrington has a new recruit in his fundraising mission – and he’s hoping she can help him raise a further £1,000 for his charities.
Appleton ward councillor Judith Wheeler has agreed to run the English Half Marathon on behalf of the Mayor’s charity appeal.
She’s putting herself through the gruelling challenge with the aim of giving the Mayor’s four chosen charities a big boost.
A special fundraising page has been set up at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/WarringtonMayor.
The Mayor, Cllr Faisal Rashid is asking everyone who can afford it to visit the page and “sponsor” Cllr Wheeler’s run by pledging just £1 to the Mayor’s charities.
Cllr Rashid and Cllr Wheeler are hoping that 1,000 generous Warrington people will pledge a pound – giving the Mayor’s charities a £1,000 cash boost.
Cllr Rashid said: “I am honoured that Cllr Wheeler is taking on the challenge. It’s a wonderful gesture, and one which I hope will raise a great deal of money for my charities.
“My fundraising efforts have already benefited so much from the generosity of local people, but we have to keep going, so that we can provide even more support to people who really need it. Please back Cllr Wheeler’s run by donating a pound – or more if you can afford it – and play your part in changing lives.”
The Mayor’s chosen charities are the Warrington Disability Partnership, the Tim Parry Jonathan Ball Foundation for Peace, Brainwave and St Rocco’s Hospice.
Cllr Wheeler will be running the English Half Marathon, representing the Mayor’s charity appeal, on Sunday September 18.
