A special meeting is set to take place at Warrington town hall to discuss the feasibility of a new purpose built theatre for the town.
The meeting on Monday June 27 at 7pm is being hosted by Warrington & District Arts Council, Warrington Civic Society and Theatre for Warrington.
The societies are cordially inviting interested parties to send at least two representatives to the Town Hall to take part in a presentation and discussion.
With a possible bid to be City of Culture on the horizon there has been renewed interest in getting a theatre in the town.
Warrington Borough Council CEO Steven Broomhead says that the issue of a business case for a theatre will be considered if it is decided to make a bid.
Meanwhile three possible locations and over fifty grant-making bodies have been identified.
The Empire Theatre in Blackburn has already achieved what the groups aim to do: they took an old building, raised a loan, and founded a successful theatre for use by amateur groups and professional bodies. They run it at a small profit using a lot of volunteers so it is a co-operative venture.
Michael Berry from Blackburn Empire Theatre will speak about what they have achieved and how they set about it then David Cockayne, a theatre designer based in Lymm, will speak about Theatre Space. This will be followed by audience participation.
