Grappers looking good after six games

IT’S early days yet, but six matches into the Vivio Cheshire County League, Grappenhall are looking good for a speedy return to the premier division.
A five wicket win at Oulton Park kept them comfortably in second place in the division one table.
The home side batted first and reached 176-8, Sam Guest taking 3-41, Gaz Burns 2-19 and Ryan Ninan 2-61.
Skipper Adam Roylance got Grappers’ reply off to a good start with a well-struck 48 and Peter Barnes hit 62 they coasted to 177-5.
Grappenhall 2nd were well beaten when they entertained Upton at Broad Lane. Batting first they were bowled out for 136 despite useful innings from Arthur Pennington, 33, Iain Wright, 42 and Jacvk Critchley, 26.
Pennington was on form with the ball also, taking 4-46, b ut this was not enough to stop the visitors coasting to 141-5.
Grappenhall 3rd took the honours in their game at Stockport. Batting first on what looked like a good batting track, but which turned out to be anything but, they could only reach 137-9, William Metcalfe top scoring with 25 not out.
But the home side struggled even more with Stanley Pennington, 4-13 and James Jenkinson, 4-18, causing havoc as Stockport subsided for 74.
Warrington took a pasting at Walton Lea when they were bowled out for 67 by Davenham. Brad McIntosh, with 25, was top scorer. The visitors cantered to 71-3.
The 2nd XI game at Davenham ended similarly, with Warrington dismissed for 115, James Sharrock 34 and Paolo Manfredi 26. Davenham replied with 117-3.
Warrington 5th earned a draw at Neston where the home side hit 202-5.Warrington replied with 164-2, David Lee hitting 65 not out, Harley Barrat 51 not out and Sam Houghton 32.
In the Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park managed to hang on for a draw after Disley hit 169. Blair Weller, 3-29 and Jackson Hughes, 5-29, were the pick of the Lymm bowlers.
Lymm replied with 102-8, skipper Travis Scholes hitting 26.
Asim Shah hit an unbeaten 83 as Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd hit 154-6 against Woodford.  Then Tony Spaven, 3-22 and Graham Waumsley, 3-15 got among the Woodford wickets to dismiss them for 91.
Stretton went down heavily at Wilmslow Wayfarers despite managing to hold the home side to 112-98. In reply they were swept aside for 48.
But Stretton 2nd managed to hang on for a draw when they entertained Barrow, who batted first and reach 167-7. Umer Zeb, 5-33 was the pick of Stretton’s bowlers. Stretton were 112-9 at the close.
Appleton won by 96 runs  when they took on Langley at Lyons Lane.
Batting first, they reached 179-7, Sam Cooper hitting 63, Martin Cooper 33 and Tom Lomas 24. The visitors were bowled out for 83, Gavaskar Kanthiraj taking 3-12 and Lomas 3-8.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury’s poor form continue when they were beaten by 52 runs by a strong Westminster Park side at Hurst Lane.
Good bowling by Sam Stanier, 4-31, Ian Black, 3-16 and Christopher Ayre, 2-38 restricted the visitors to 129. But yet again Glazebury’s batting collapsed as they were dismissed for 77, Andrew Wood top scoring with 21.
Glazebury 2nd also went down at Sandbach, where the home side batted first and totalled 136. Skipper David Nicholson took 5-36 and Frank Pedigrew 2-20. But Glazebury were dismissed for 61, with only Nicholson, 20, offering much resistance.
Rylands 2nd owed much to Phil Osmont when they travelled to Bowdon Vale. First he hammered 114 not out as Rylands reached 183-8 and then he followed this up with 6-19 as the home side were dismissed  for 130 all out.
