Nail-biting finish brings first win of the season

WARRINGTON picked up their first win of the season in the Vivio Cheshire County League first division – after a nail-biting finish against Didsbury
Batting first at Walton Lea, Warrington hit 186-5, Malcolm Agar top scoring with 40 and James Rudd and Will Fleetwood each scoring 32.
Didsbury went for the runs and despite good bowling by Huw Stone, 3-53 and James Rudd, 3-36, were closing in on their target in the penultimate over.
But the scramble for runs led to the last man being dramatically run-out with Didsbury just three runs short.
Warrington 2nd lost at Bowdon, where the home side batted first and reached 212, Brad Roden taking 4-53 and Ryan Swart 4-56. Warrington were dismissed for 157, Aaron Soni top scoring with an unbeaten 43.
Grappenhall’s winning streak came to an end at Bollington when they were bowled out for 144 after putting the home side in and seeing them reach 209-9. Sam Guest was the pick of Grappers’ bowling, taking 4-41 while overseas player Ryan Ninan took 3-53.
When Grappers batted they got off to a bad start and although Adam Roylance hit 44 and Ninan 35 never looked like reaching their target.
Grappenhall 2nd posted their first win of the season at home to Stockport after the visitors had posted 218-9, Ben Cagna taking 4-18 in four overs.
Grappers got off to a slow start, losing two wickets, but with in-form Jamie Bye and skipper Jack Critchley at the crease began to build a platform.  Critchley went for 41 and Bye for 60 leaving more work to be done, but the tail wagged and Grappenhall eventually got home with a wicket and one ball to spare, Matt Titchard and Ben Clissold scoring some vital, quick runs.
A depleted Grappenhall 3rd were rolled over for 134 at Alderley Edge and with injuries forcing two bowlers out of an already inexperienced attack were unable to prevent the home side coasting to victory without loss.
In the Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park won by 34 runs at Bredbury St Marks. Paul Tong hit 50 and Travis Scholes 39 as Lymm totalled 170. The home side were dismissed for 136, Blair Weller taking 4-16 an d Matthew Bradshaw 4-24.
Appleton hosted Over Peover at Lyons Lane and bowled them out for 116, Jack Talbot taking 6-38 and Tom Lomas 3-27. Appleton hit off the runs for the loss of three wickets, Lomas hitting an unbeaten 66 and Alex Wright 21.
Appleton 2nd were held to a draw by Chester Boughton Hall. Mike Arnold hit 68, Inzy Rashid 57 not out  and David Lomas 36 as Appleton hit 250-3. Chester never looked in the hunt and were hanging on with one wicket to spare at the close, on 205. Joe Cooper took 4-50 and Jim Warham 3-39.
Stretton went down by seven wickets against Bunbury, J Mir hitting 43 out of their all-out total of 143. Bunbury replied with 147-3, A Zubain taking 3-53.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury suffered a heavy defeat at Audlem, being dismissed for 62 after the home side had totalled 211-6. Jack Warhurst took 3-64.  Only two Glazebury batsmen reached double figures.
Glazebury 2nd also went down against visiting Styal, who batted first and hit 202-5. Skipper David Nicholson took 2-52 and Jack Whitehead 2-51. Glazebury replied with 120 all out, with opener Phil McCue holding the innings together with a fine 69.
