YOUNG performers returned to Warrington with a spring in their step after learning from a Broadway star in New York.

Priestley College’s Performing Arts and Dance students spent time with stage star Aaron Kaburick who is currently appearing in ‘SOMETHING ROTTEN!’ at the St James’ Theatre.

“The workshop was inspiring and I am now more determined than ever to pursue my dream of working on Broadway,” said ex-Weaverham High School student Tara Moore, who is studying Performing Arts and Dance at Priestley.

Priestley College organises an annual trip to Broadway to give students the chance to work with an actor or actress with professional stage experience.

This year the Broadway talent was provided by Kaburick who was in the original ensemble for Billy Elliott and has also appeared in Annie, Sister Act and The Full Monty.

During his workshop at Pearl Studios on 8th Avenue the students learnt several different sections of repertoire from the show ‘SOMETHING ROTTEN!’ which they then saw that evening.

“The workshop gave me an insight into the world of Broadway and I loved the show because the cast were so in sync,” said ex-St. Ambrose student Nick Gartland, who is studying Performing Arts, Drama and Music at Priestley.

“New York was the best experience of my life with great friends and moments I will treasure forever.”

Forty-five Performing Arts and Media students travelled to America. There was also a Business-of-the-Business workshop focussing on how shows are funded and the backstage jobs on Broadway.

During the five-day trip they also visited Radio City Music Hall, the Museum of Moving Image and the 9-11 Memorial Site.

“It was an inspiring experience for everyone who took part,” said Tutor Abbie Rippon.

“To learn from someone with stage experience on Broadway was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and to combine that with so many other highlights made for an unforgettable week.”
