MORE than 2,000 Warrington schoolchildren will start Year 7 in a secondary school of their choice from September this year.
A total of 91.5 per cent of children have been offered their first preference, 6.6 per cent their second and fewer than one per cent only their third choice.
National statistics won’t be published by the Department for Education until June, but the latest figures suggest that Warrington continues to perform above average both for the region and the country.
Cllr Jean Carter (pictured), the borough council’s lead member for children and young people, said: “We do our utmost to place as many children as possible in the school of their choice and we are seeing year-on-year improvements in satisfaction.
“Some parents will naturally be disappointed and there is an appeals process they can go through, but every Year 6 child living in Warrington has an offer of a school place and I would like to wish each and every one of them every success.”
Written confirmation of Year 7 places is currently being sent to parents whose children are due to start secondary school in September.
