Council warns of more traffic chaos next week

WARRINGTON Borough Council is advising motorist to continue to check travel information and allow extra time for their journeys as emergency motorway repairs continue to threaten traffic chaos into next week.
Highways England have advised that the emergency repair work between the M6 and M56 is likely to last until 5am on Tuesday (November 17)
The council is continuing to put measures in place to help to ease congestion on the roads by suspending any non-urgent highway work until the motorway repairs have been completed, opening additional lanes where possible on Warrington roads and removing some cones and barriers to help traffic flow.
Peel Ports have agreed to suspend the Warburton Bridge tolls during peak times on Monday between 7.30 – 9.30am and 4.30-7.30pm. Tolls will still be collected during off peak times 9.30-4.30.
Traffic on the bridge is being monitored and off-peak toll charges will be reviewed if traffic queues became severe.
Residents are advised to check travel information, and the Highways England website, find alternative routes where possible and take care.

  1. “opening additional lanes where possible on Warrington roads”…….. ? I don’t get that and can’t think of any roads that have spare lanes that are normally closed.
