Council depot to be reborn as gymnasium

A FORMER council depot at Warrington is to be re-developed as a gymnasium – despite objections from nearby residents.
The borough council’s development management committee has given the go-ahead for the single-storey building in Capesthorne Road, Orford to be converted.
Four objections were received from nearby residents on the grounds of increased traffic, noise and loss of privacy due to overlooking windows.
Planning officers recommended the scheme for approval, pointing out the building had been vacant for 12 months and no offer had been received on the property other than the gym application.
No external alterations were proposed and the gym’s contributions in supporting health and well-being objectives weighed in its favour.
Overall, they believed the change of use would not cause harm to the character or appearance of the area.
The building was used as a depot by the borough council’s gardening services until November last year.
