WORK is now underway on the £4.4 million transformation of Warrington’s Victoria Park.
Warrington Borough Council has announced the start on site of one of its flagship regeneration projects involving the transformation of sports facilities at Victoria Park and the creation of a new Community Hub.
The 67 acre Victoria Park project is a key part of Warrington Means Business, Warrington’s framework for growth and the work being undertaken will not only reinvigorate the park but make it a community resource to be proud of. By making outdoor sport more accessible to groups across the area, the scheme will create a leading sports facility for Warrington and potentially one of the finest in the North West when it is completed in Autumn this year.
The works include:
• A new, fully accessible sports stand that will include viewing areas, changing rooms, WCs, kitchens and community room
• A new competition standard floodlit rugby and football pitch, fenced to ensure security
• Improvements to the existing pitches that will enhance water drainage, further increasing the quality of the pitch surface, helping them to remain in use all year round
• Improvements and enhancement to existing car parking facilities

The new 300 seat sports stand will provide spectators and the community with a high quality, purpose built and fully accessible environment of enhanced facilities. This high quality facility will be available for use by all community clubs and groups. In addition Warrington Wolves will also utilise this facility as a match ground for junior and non-Super League games. Latchford Albion will also use the ground.
The development scheme is being overseen by Warrington & Co., Warrington’s partnership for growth.
Contractors on the Victoria Park scheme, Buckingham Group, previously won the contract to demolish the former Warrington Wolves stadium at Wilderspool where they took on a number of apprentices as part of that contract. They are now continuing their apprenticeships in the construction of this new facility at Victoria Park.
Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “Warrington Borough Council’s vision is to transform Victoria Park into a dedicated “Sports Hub” and to making it Warrington’s key sporting, leisure and community events location for the whole region and a showcase for the quality of life that Warrington enjoys.”
