Hypnotes August – Expectations

0

THE sun has got it’s hat on hip hip hip hooray, a friend sang to me recently, and we pondered if this was really the start of the summer we have all been waiting for. We tend to speculate whether we will have a good long summer, which we feel is well overdue, but will our expectations soon be shattered? And what will that do to our plans and most of all to our mood.
As I write this in early July the hot weather getting established, and the school holidays soon to be upon us, many will be planning family activities or ways to keep the children occupied while parents still work. For those that can afford it this year, there are holiday plans, and the hope that the sun will last if staying un the UK. For those who are not able to have a holiday, then at least the sun means they can spend time outside, which will help to lift their mood.
On a personal note, we are hoping for the sunny weather to last for our daughter’s outside wedding. So much planning goes into such an occasion, which can then be ruined by the weather.
External influences, such as the weather, seem to have an impact on everything that we do, and the way we think and feel. Take a moment to notice how you are influenced by other things and people and how that affects your emotions and actions. We can choose to allow external things to affect us, and continue to blame other things or people on our limited experiences. We cannot control the weather or what other people choose to do. However, we have something called internal locus of control, which means having the belief that we have control of events in our life and how we react to them.
Many people feel disempowered, out of control, at the mercy of others, limited to past bad experiences, lack of money, prospects, education, friends, and many other things. However, it is important to work out whether our expectations are unrealistic and we are being unfair to ourselves. We compare ourselves to others, and what we expect we should be doing or should have in our lives, in relation to others, or in relation to what we are led to believe by the media we should or should not be doing.
It is therefore important to take control back, to feel responsibility and a sense of managing our own thoughts, feelings and actions, assessing if we have unrealistic expectations of ourselves, and what we really want and don’t want in our lives. Many people do not truly know who they are, but it can be exciting, even though a little scary, to discover, your true self, and not be what you think others expect you to be.
Life is about learning and growing as a person, if you want to understand more about how to do this, and need some help, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Cate Todd on 01925 658322.
