Wolves suffer Hull of a collapse

WARRINGTON Wolves threw away a 16-6 lead as they suffered a second half collapse going down 16-26 to Hull FC for only their second home defeat of 2013.
With the Wolves leading 10-6 at the break a Ryan Atkins try early in the second half looked set to put the Wolves on the road to victory.
But Hull hit back with 20 unanswered points to send the shell shocked Wolves crashing to defeat.
In a tight first half Warrington eventually broke ther deadlock on 29 minutes when a grubber kick by Lee Briers was seized upon by Simon Grix, with briers adding the extras in the absence of Brett Hodgson.
Then Briers’ half-back partner Richie Myler put boot to ball with a well-weighted chip to the right seeing Joel Monaghan catch and finish, despite the presence of two Hull players.
But Hull – who had already seen a score for winger Tom Lineham chalked off due to a push by Whiting on Atkins – hit back before the break.
Aaron Heremaia set up Shaun Briscoe’s first of the night, the winger not having to break stride to claim the hooker’s kick before finishing next to the uprights to leave Daniel Holdsworth an easy conversion.
After the break Myler’s kick set up Atkins to leap above Lineham and score the first points of the second half and restore a 10 point gap, but the visitors hit back as Lineham went over on the right.
It was then nearly one way traffic as Richard Horne’s brilliantly-timed pass allowed Jason Crookes to set up Whiting for a converted score that levelled it at 16-16.
Crooks second try of the night edged Hull into the lead with nine minutes remaining, another superb ball from Horne allowing his team-mate to force his way over from close range.
Holdsworth added the extras and the result was wrapped up in the closing stages when Briscoe won the race to his own chip over the top down the left wing, completing his double.
