THE number of Warrington schools closed, or partially closed, due to heavy snow today has risen to 12.
As reported earlier, four schools closed at noon – Great Sankey High, St Philips CE Primary, Barrow Hall Primary and Park Road Primary – all at Great Sankey.
Now the borough council has been informed that Penketh High School, Sir Thomas Boteler CE High, University Academy (Lysander), Cardinal Newman RC High, Grappenhall Heyes Primary, and Bewsley Lodge Primary have all closed early.
In addition, St Gregory’s RC High and Sycamore Lane Primary, Great Sankey, have partially closed.
The council has launched a special information section on the weather situation on their website, www.warrington.gov.uk/snow where the latest details of traffic, gritting, schools, etc can be found
Bin collections are said to be continuing normally but may finish earlier than usual. There will be no interim collection of black bins. North West Ambulance Service has cancelled some patient transfer services to Warrington Hospital.
Borough council gritters – which had been out during the night – were said to be back on the road.
All LiveWire sports pitches in the town have been closed – including the 3G pitches at the Orford Park Jubilee Hub.
Adult Social Care users are being transported home early.
The gates at Fox Covert Cemetery, Appleton have been closed due to treacherous conditions within the cemetery.
There is no vehicle access and people on foot visiting the cemetery are being advised to be extremely careful.

  1. Why did so many local schools have to close early as the snow wasn’t that bad to warrant closure ? Infact the council had also already stated that they HAD already gritted all the secondary gritting routes around schools as well as the normal primary gritting routes. (By ‘secondary’ and ‘primary’ routes I don’t mean school type I mean road gritting route type just incase that was confusing) The info for which roads are designated as which type for gritting in Warrington or your own area along with other local information can be found here on the councils interactive mapping system (enter your area or postcode and then click the approprate tabs for what you are looking for) ……….. http://maps.warrington.gov.uk/connect/

  2. Maybe the Council didn’t know about it. As far as I am aware if a school decides to close early it is THEIR responsibility to inform the council so maybe Kings didn’t do that as they are no longer under WBC control šŸ˜‰

  3. It is because the school management are not of the calibre required to put education first. Any excuse and the teachers make a sharp exit.

It is currently 2230 and we still haven’t had sufficient snow to cause anything more than slight inconvenience.
