Flats plan gives cause for thought

A PLAN to build a two storey block of eight apartments on the site of an existing bungalow has given councillors cause to stop and think.

Members of the borough council’s development management committee will visit the site in Field Lane, Appleton before deciding whether the scheme can go ahead.
Planning officers are recommending it be refused – and 30 nearby residents have lodged objections.
Appleton Parish Council has also objected and Warrington South MP David Mowat has also expressed his concern.
Planning officers say the issues and concerns expressed by the objectors are not sufficient to justify withholding planning permission.
But it fails to deliver any affordable housing, or a contribution to off-site provision and, as such, falls foul of the council’s current policy approach.
A similar application, also involving demolition of the bungalow, was thrown out by planners in 2004
