AN amateur photographer from Warrington has won a national photography competition celebrating British manufacturing.
Robert Watkins’ “Manufacturing a Filter” was the winning entry for the amateur photographer category of the “Made in Britain” Photography Awards, the nationwide competition run by EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, and sponsored by Canon, Lombard and the ERA Foundation.
The black and white photo of the finishing process to a filter manufactured at Croft Engineering Services in Warrington was praised by judges for its strong composition, exposure and tonal range with the welder’s arm leading in to the focal point.
The competition attracted more than 800 entries, of which 87 were shortlisted.
Robert was presented with a share of £5,000 worth of Canon photography equipment by sponsor Lombard at a ceremony at the House of Commons. A winner and runner-up were selected from the three entry groups: young, amateur and professional.
David Ost, North West director at EEF, said: “Manufacturing is exciting and constantly evolving, and we are proud of all of our entrants who have helped us redefine the public perception of manufacturing with their eclectic range of images.”
