Birthday celebrations at housing trust

WARRINGTON’S biggest landlord – Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) – is two years old and marked the occasion by helping a group of youngsters from Longford launch a new music video.
Staff and board members rolled out the red carpet for the event, with the youngsters getting the chance to show off their hard work to family and friends at the Halliwell Jones stadium.
The music video was created by a group of teenagers from Longford in collaboration with local film company Vision4Dreams. The video accompanies ‘Our Future’, an urban rap song written and recorded by the youngsters to describe their area and hopes for the future.
It has already received more than 1,000 hits on YouTube and is set to hit even greater heights following the launch of the video.
The project was supported by Keepmoat and GGHT as part of the Trust’s Longford Quality of Life project.
Over the last 12 months the Trust and its partners have helped to deliver a large number of improvements in the Longford area. Tenants and residents have benefited from improvements to the walls around their properties and front drives, while the area has seen a number of initiatives to clean up grot spots and reduce crime and anti social behaviour.
A number of community groups in the area have also benefited from the Trust’s Heart of the Community Fund, which has provided funding from a number of GGHT’s contractors. Successful groups have included the local residents association, two local Morris Dancing troupes, an arts project for local youngsters and a satellite boxing gym.
The Trust’s food club – GGHT Fresh, has also launched in the last 12 months and already has 70 families registered to receive discounted fresh fruit and vegetables each week.
GGHT chairman Roy Smith, said: “It was great to see the smiles on the youngsters’ faces as their video was shown to their friends and family for the first time.
“We have made great progress in the last 12 months in working with our young people and this is a great example of how we aim to give them a voice in how we improve their homes and neighbourhoods.
“We recognise that the next 12 months are going to be challenging for our tenants as they deal with the impact of welfare reform but we remain confident that we can continue to work together to build on our successes and achievements.”
