Adoption charity gets a warm welcome

A CHESHIRE adoption charity received a warm Warrington welcome when it surprised shoppers with a new regional campaign to recruit more adopters.
Adoption Matters Northwest (AMNW) set up its “pop-up” adoption agency at Golden Square Shopping Centre during National Adoption Week after it received a number of enquiries from Warrington families at its branded store-front at the centre.
Social workers were on hand at the centre to provide insight into the adoption process from start to finish.
AMNW chief executive Norman Goodwin said: “There are around 7,000 children in the UK who are waiting to be part of a loving family. The sad fact is that, despite the hard work of voluntary agencies and local authorities, there simply aren’t enough adopters coming forward.”
Golden Square partnered with AMNW earlier this year with a unique “shop front” designed to look like a child’s bedroom.
It highlights the high number of children still in care across the region and has sparked interest from the centre’s shoppers since its unveiling.
Mr Goodwin added: “We’ve had quite a few enquiries from Warrington families since our hoarding was revealed in Golden Square Shopping Centre. Our ‘pop-up’ adoption agency provides a fantastic opportunity to reach out to those families and help raise awareness about the need for more adopters across Cheshire.
“People often have misconceptions about adoption, so we have used this campaign to set the record straight and encourage more people to take that first step towards a new life as an adoptive parent.”
Ian Cox, general manager at Golden Square said: “It’s important for us to be able to work with community partners such as Adoption Matters Northwest and we are pleased that this special ‘store’ has already helped to raise awareness of the real need to find more prospective adopters in and around Warrington.”
