THE sister of murdered Warrington teenager Shafilea Ahmed, (pictured) has received a suspended prison sentence for her involvement in a violent robbery at the family home as police continue their hunt for two men involved in the crime.
Alesha Ahmed has been sentenced to a 12 month custodial sentence suspended for 2 years at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The 24-year-old was charged with robbery following an incident at her parent?s house in Liverpool Road, Warrington, on 25 August 2010.
Alesha Ahmed was arrested the day after the incident and subsequently charged with robbery on 14 December 2010. At a subsequent court appearance, she pleaded guilty.
During the police investigation, a 25-year-old man from Bolton and a 28-year-old man from Worcester were arrested in connection with the incident. They were later released without charge.
Cash and jewellery were stolen during the robbery. None of the stolen items were ever recovered.
Delivering his sentence Mr Justice Irwin said it as a “truly exceptional sentencing exercise”.
He said she had been involved in “an extraordinary and terrifying story” witnessing the murder of her sister as a 15-year-old by their parents and being forced for years to carry a “dark of secret”, as her parents sought to evade justice.
Detective Inspector Dougie Shaw, who is leading the investigation, said: “Alesha Ahmed has pleaded guilty to her involvement in a robbery at her parent?s home in Warrington on the evening of 25 August 2010 and has today been sentenced.
“The men involved in the robbery remain outstanding. Enquiries are ongoing to identify these offenders and ensure they are brought to justice.
“The case remains open and lines of investigation into the outstanding offenders are continuing.”
As part of that investigation police have today issued CCTV stills of two men they would like to trace in connection with the incident.
The men were captured on CCTV at a petrol station in the Castle Bromwich area of Birmingham on the evening of 25 August 2010.
DI Shaw added: “We are urging anyone who has any information, which could assist with our enquiries, to come forward. Extensive enquiries have been carried out in relation to this incident and our work is ongoing. We are committed to doing all we can to trace those responsible.”
Anyone with any information in relation to the identity of the men is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting Operation Ore or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
