TOP students were honoured at Warrington Collegiate’s biggest ever annual awards ceremony.
More than 600 guests attended the Higher Education Awards ceremony at Warrington Parish Church. The Kings Community Choir performed a selection of choral work, classical and popular songs during the event.
College principal Paul Hafren said: “This is my 10th higher education awards ceremony and each year our student success gets bigger and better.
“Our students work hard to produce fantastic results and the ceremony is a great way to recognise their achievements. We wish them every success as they move on to continue their studies or progress onto employment.”
As well as the academic certificates several students also received special awards for outstanding achievement in their subject area.
The Outstanding Group of the Year award went to a group of students who had studied together for five years, on the Public Services course, progressing onto the HND Public Services with Criminology.
One of the group Nyomi Robinson, who works at Riverside, which specialises in ex-offender rehabilitation, said the group had been very supportive of each other.
The Outstanding Achievement Award went to Gareth Eyre, who achieved Manufacturing Engineering HNC Level 4 and has progressed onto the HND. Gareth works as an aircraft fitter at Aircelle.
Rachel Burton, who studied ILM Level 5 award in Leadership and Management, was awarded Student of the Year. Rachel currently works in the Prison Service.
Karen Duhaney was awarded the Professional Student of the Year. Karen secured two promotions within the NHS which she attributes to the course.
Scott Wadeson was awarded The Higher Apprenticeship Award. He is assistant management accountant at the NHS 5 Boroughs Partnership.
The Harry Cunningham Award is presented to a student who has overcome particular difficulties in their chosen path of study. It went to Lenka Liscinska, who achieved the Association of Accounting Technicians NVQ Level 4 despite the fact that English is not her first language.
Rosalie Barton, who retired as senior deputy principal in September, was awarded a Fellowship.
The evening was concluded by Claire Robinson, who achieved the Postgraduate Certificate in Education Level 6, proposing the Vote of Thanks on behalf of the students.
