Youth club building may be sold

COUNCIL officers at Warrington are recommending that a former youth club building be sold by auction.
The former Burtonwood Youth Base has been empty since last year and has become a target for theft and vandalism.
Officers believe the sale could generate up to £100,000 and that there could be interest in the property for uses such as a private children’s nursery, residential or office conversion.
Local residents have been consulted, but only five per cent of those contacted responded. Most of these accepted the need to do something with the property but were concerned that any development would be sympathetic to the surrounds.
Officers warn that the volatility of the property market and current economic circumstances could have an effect on the sale price.
But they say council property assets sold at auction over the last five years have sold well.
Since 2007, property sales have raised more than £11 million for the council and reduced revenue costs by more than £250,000-a-year.
