GP group lands top national award

WARRINGTON Clinical Commissioning Group – the GP-led organisation which takes over responsibility for health services in the borough next April – has landed a top national award.
The group has been named the most advanced CCG of the year at the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) Vision Awards.
The award was presented in recognition of Warrington’s success in effecting real change among local GPs, seriously tackling the local NHS structure and achieving solid results on a large scale.
Commissioning healthcare services for a population of 208,000, Warrington CCG focuses on putting the public at the heart of everything it does, to the point where every governing body meeting begins with a patient telling their story and sharing their experience of local services.
In the 18 months since it formed, Warrington CCG has established itself within the community, building strong partnerships; developed a whole system approach to commissioning; carried out a systematic review of services, involving patients throughout; and delivering successful reform programmes.
The NAPC Vision Awards are aimed at recognising the hard work of clinical commissioners and what their redesigns have achieved for the NHS.
Dr Andrew Davies (pictured), chairman of Warrington CCG, said: “It’s fantastic news and I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this success. It’s great to receive external affirmation of the good job we are all doing.
“This is an award for all – GP practices, federations, clinical leads, governing board members, core CCG team, our colleagues supporting us in the commissioning support unit, and our partners Warrington Borough Council, Warrington and Halton Hospital Foundation Trust, Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust and 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, who have contributed to this success.
“And, last but not least, all the patient groups and individuals who have taken the time and effort to feed back on their experience of services. This is what enables us to continue to improve healthcare services for local people.”

  1. Putting the public at the heart of everything it does? – just as long as that empathy- lacking, self-centred, egotistical, bone-idle breed called doctors’ receptionists play along.
