Councillors get to root of flooding problem

COUNCILLORS hope they have got to the root of a flooding problem at Dallam, Warrington.
Steve Parish, who represents Bewsey and Dallam with colleague Pat Wright, has been trying to get to the root of the problem when one end of Lewis Avenue flooded regularly – and roots were the problem.
United Utilities have now removed roots from 250 metres of drain, and will line the pipes to keep roots out.
Cllr Parish said, “Once the cause was identified, it was just a matter of asking United Utilities to make it a priority. Residents have been spared the anguish others suffered recently of having their homes flooded, but they were having to wade to their homes after any heavy rain.
“We’ll wait for the next deluge to be sure, but it looks like water is now getting away.”
He added that the Council and Environment Agency were also looking at further work to protect the Sankey Brook from overflowing, after Longshaw Street was flooded in
last month’s storms.

  1. WBC....oh dear, another cockup! on

The car park on the new Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub was flooded the other day. They can’t even get things right on new building projects….. so what chance for the rest of the town!!

  2. Councillors HOPE!!! I thought WBC employed Technical perople to ensure that we get the correct solutions to problemas like this. What hope have we got when problems are approached like this?

  3. This was only sorted after years of complaining and UU saying it wasn’t up to them. And that picture is nothing – the water there wasn’t far from going over the top of your wellies with the puddle stetching from our front garden past the corner of massey avenue

  4. I’ve seen it worse. It was thought that putting in new drains and pumps at Higham Avenue would solve the Lewis Avenue problem; when it didn’t the Council got UU to send the cctv down, the roots were discovered, and (amid their other priorities in recent weather where homes were being flooded) UU have now down the work. And it seems to have worked.
