Easier – and cheaper – to travel to work

A MAJOR business park is making it easier – and less costly – for employees to travel to and from work by pledging its support to the Warrington Local Sustrainable Transport Fund (LSTF)
The Lingley Mere Management Company – run by joint venture partners, Muse Developments and United Utilities (UU) – has signed up to the LSTF by providing gold level financial support, along with other key businesses in the town.
The fund will provide occupiers at Lingley Mere with a package of transport support, including enhanced travel planning services and a comprehensive business travel audit.
The main element of the initiative will see improvements made to East-West “connector” bus links and cycle ways.
Wes Erlam, senior development surveyor at Muse Developments, said: “An increasing number of Warrington commuters are using more sustainable travel methods to get to and from work. Whether it’s through our shuttle bus service, or the LSTF initiative, the Lingley Mere Management Company is firmly focused on making the park as accessible as possible, while also promoting public transport as a viable alternative to multiple car journeys.”
Lingley Mere has implemented a number of schemes to encourage people to adopt more sustainable methods of travel.
Last year, a brand new double-decker bus service was introduced to cope with increased demand, accommodating 76 passengers on each journey – 36 more than were previously catered for.
The free service, which operates between Warrington Town Centre and Lingley Mere, was launched in October 2007 and offers seven pick-ups per day.
Robin Uttley, head of commercial property at United Utilities, said: “The Lingley Mere joint venture partnership is dedicated to making a positive contribution to the area’s economic future. The continued success of our own travel plan, together with our backing of the wider efforts being made by Warrington Borough Council, clearly illustrates our commitment to the region’s environmental future as well.”
Cllr Linda Dirir, executive member for Highways, Transportation and Climate Change at the council added: “We’re delighted to welcome Lingley Mere Business Park on board as a gold partner. It’s fantastic to see this level of support from one of the region’s largest and most prestigious business parks, as we look to deliver significant travel improvements to the Warrington area.”
