ROYAL Marine Joe Long, 22, has set himself a target of raising £5,000 for Help for Heroes – from a key rugby match.
March 5’s clash between Moore RUFC and Warrington RUFC looks like being a close run affair. Last time the two clubs met, at Warrington, the home side won by two points.
But not only will Moore be looking for revenge in the return fixture – they are also using the match to raise money for the charity which provides help for casualties of the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts
Joe, from Thelwall, plays for Moore when he’s at home. When he’s not, he plays for the Royal Navy.
He hopes to be making a come-back after injury on March 5 and has organised a pre-match lunch for supporters, sponsors, etc and an after the match disco. Proceeds from both functions will go to Help for Heroes, as well as entry fees for the match.
Joe said: “Quite a few friends of mine have been injured or killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, so I want to raise money for Help for Heroes.
“I hope to raise £5,000 and have already got about £1,500 from sponsors.
“Anyone who wants to help in any way can do so by calling me on my mobile, 07703 728961 or emailing me at [email protected]“
A number of other serving Marines will be attending the match.
