125 new homes to go ahead

DEVELOPERS have won planning consent for 125 new homes at Warrington – despite objections from the occupiers of existing nearby houses.
The development will take place on the site of the former G&J Greenall distillery, off Loushers Lane.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee approved the scheme after visiting the site, following opposition from a number of residents of Stafford Road, who claimed the new houses would be too close to their own.
They claimed they would be robbed of privacy and there would also be a loss of trees along the edge of the site.
Local councillor Ted Finnegan also objected on the grounds of loss of residential amenity for existing residents and those of the new houses.
Developers Bellway Homes already had outline permission to build on the site.
They say 17 of the properties will be for social rent and there will be a mix of three and four bed mews, semis and detached houses – all at two-storey height.
They will be accessed via a tree-lined boulevard from Loushers Lane, with additional pedestrian access points onto Loushers Lane and Wilderspool Causeway, plus a link to the existing footpath network in Black Bear Park.
There is also outline planning consent for a care home and the conversion of listed buildings in China Lane for residential use which will be the subject of future detailed applications.
