Last chance to have a say on budget

WARRINGTON Borough Council’s formal budget consultation is coming to an end – but there is still time for residents to have an input.
Building on ideas put forward through the council’s “Make Every Penny Count” campaign, the council says it is committed to finding the best ways possible to make savings of around £50m over the next four years.
Feedback on the proposals is welcome until Friday January 21.
A council spokeswoman said: “The results will help the executive board refine the final budget proposals which are due to be presented to full council in March.”
Feedback can be submitted online via www.warrington.gov.uk and printed documents are available in local libraries and council buildings for those who do not have easy or regular access to a computer. Once completed these can then be handed in to staff or returned via a freepost address.
Updates will also be available via the council’s twitter and facebook pages.

  1. I would like to know – Why is the expenses of Cllr Terry Oneil LABOUR Group Leader for the past two years been ALLOWED TO TOP over ÂŁ12K (travel this is)

  2. in 2008/2009 Clr O’Neil was paid total allowances of ÂŁ22,682.89. Clr Marks was paid total allowances of ÂŁ29.164.68. Clr Welborn was paid total allowances of ÂŁ22,154.60 & Clr Bland was paid total allowances of ÂŁ22,106.65…. so just shy of ÂŁ100,000.00 in allowances for 4 councillors with a total allowance claimed of ÂŁ671,070.85 claimed by all of the councillors in Warrington. Now seeing as it is the officers that make all of the decisions, maybe getting rid of at least 60% of the councillors would be a good start which would mean the Libraries would not have to close and other services could be saved too. …. With regards to the travel expenses for Councillor O’Neil I need to ask one question….. where doe he live in order to justify travel expense claims in 2008/2009 of a total of ÂŁ7,958.85. The majority of other councillors claimed a few hundred pounds with Marks claiming ÂŁ1,768.74…. pity the councillors won’t come on here or onto the forum to defend these isn’t it?. The other thing is why are some on a basic allowance of ÂŁ800 pounds or so, but the vast majority get ÂŁ7,779.38?

  3. ….they don’t like it when confronted with the stark facts on how much they (all of the parties) take from the Council coffers. The Labour lot moan and whinge about the spending of the Tories, but have the biggest claimant of travel expenses on their team! None of the councillors who post on the news pages will post on this one I’m guessing; unless it is to defend their own positions!

  4. Baz, I raised at Full Council via a question on Councillors allowance, asking that that travel and subsistence allowances must be reviewed in this Budget consultation. I am shocked at the amount that was also claimed in 2009/2010.

  5. Thank you for the input Kevin…… you are the only one to do so publically I hasten to add!. I too am frankly shocked at how much is paid in travel…. maybe the council should look at investing in some bikes for the councillors seeing as we have all these fancy new bike lanes everywhere and no one using them….. might go down better than 24 ipads!
