FUNDS raised by the sale of a former youth club building at Culcheth will be used to help set up a new club in the community wing of Culcheth High School.
Money was raised by youngsters and the sale of the former youth club in Church Lane in 2006. It was kept to provide equipment for future youth projects.
Chairman and treasurer of the former club committee Cllrs Keith and Sue Bland have donated £2,100 of these funds to the development of the new youth club.
The rest of the money has been used to buy equipment for the club such as a TV, games consoles and music equipment.
Young people, aged from 13 to 19, from Culcheth and the surrounding areas will be welcome at the club. It opens this Friday at 7.30pm. There will be a chance for young people to meet youth workers, tour the club and try out the facilities.
Cllr Keith Bland, (pictured) deputy leader of the borough council, said: “I am delighted to see the money that these young people worked so hard to raise put to good use. This is a fantastic facility and I am sure it will benefit a great many people for many years to come.”
Activities on offer will include street dance and sports. It will also provide advice, guidance or just a place to meet friends.

  1. Sounds good and well dont to all the kids for their fundraising… would be great if the same happened in other areas too so all kids would have a LOCAL youth club near where they live.

  2. Where has the bulk of the money gone, much of it was supposed to be used to develop the Shaw St complex. All the cash was earmarked for Youth facilities not coppers, where has it gone?.

  3. its been taken away from investing in youth facilities, and looks like the young people and the youth service that supports them have been ripped off again and are always the first budgets to be raided, i cant remember the last time any investment into youth and community facilities was made. Its great news that the youth workers and young people have developed this club even with coppers, lets have more and well done.
