TRANSPORT police are seeking help from the public after a Warrington schoolboy’s cycle was stolen from a railway station while he was studying.
The 14-year-old, from Woolston, had left his cycle at Birchwood Station, locked to the cycle racks outside the station.
When he returned from school it had gone.
Investigating officer for British Transport Police, PC Ray Skelly, said:
“On returning to the station, the boy realised the lock had been cut in half and the cycle taken – leaving him stranded at the station.
“We have conducted local enquiries, carried out visits to the platform as well as viewed CCTV at the station. We are keen to speak to a man featured in these images as we believe he may be able to help with our investigation.”
He added: “It’s important that cycle owners are educated and informed about how best to protect themselves from thieves.
“There are several steps people can take to ensure their bikes are adequately marked and secured to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of bike theft.”
Anyone who has any information about the incident or who recognises the man is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background reference B5/NWA of 02/12/2010. Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  1. So even locking up bikes and cctv is no deterrant these days. To cut through a bike lock you would need to be carrying a suitable ‘tool’ so whoever stole it is not an ‘opportunist’ thief then. They make me so angry and if caught the same ‘tool’ should be used to remove their hands. Rant over !!
