Students' tribute to popular teacher

STUDENTS at Lymm High School organised a memorial service and tree planting ceremony in memory of a much-loved teacher who died tragically earlier this year.
Eirlys Patchett was a chemistry teacher at the school for 31 years and died of a heart condition following a quad-biking incident on her family’s farm in North Wales.
The service was led by the Rev Chris Newton, from Lymm Baptist Church and students Siobhan Walshe, Rebecca Carroll, Nicola Jones and Abigail Atherton, who were all taught by Mrs Patchett, organised the ceremony.
A plaque was made by the school’s design technology department and placed next to the tree in the school’s central courtyard, so she will be remembered by future generations of pupils.
Siobhan said: “Mrs Patchett was loved by staff and pupils alike, for her hard work, commitment and humour.
“We decided to organise the memorial service to recognise her outstanding efforts and her life at Lymm High School.
“We collected money over the weeks that followed her passing, from staff and students. We raised £215 in total and decided to use some of the money to buy a memorial tree.
“All other proceeds are to be donated to the North Wales Air Ambulance, who went to her assistance immediately prior to her passing away and who were the family’s choice of charity.”
The service was attended by students, close colleagues, members of Mrs Patchett’s family and the school’s headship team.
Lymm High School has a tradition of memorial trees. Two other trees in memory of former pupils are planted there and a memorial has been brought from the old grammar school site, where trees were planted in memory of “old boys” who were killed in the war.
