Council tackle dog fouling problem

WARRINGTON Council has been backing Keep Britain Tidy’s new campaign to spread the message that ‘any bin will do’ when it comes to getting rid of dog waste.
Warrington Wolves’ mascot Wolfie was on hand to help launch the campaign at an event in Birchwood Shopping Centre.
The aim was to raise awareness about the problem of dog fouling and to educate the public on how to be responsible dog owners.
The Challenge Cup provided an added attraction for local shoppers who had their photo taken with the silverware before speaking to the council’s Public Protection team.
Cllr Mike Biggin, executive board member for environment and transport, said: “The day was a great success with lots of interest from residents who wanted more information about the campaign. Dog fouling continues to be a problem in Warrington, but hopefully the message that dog owners can dispose of their pet’s waste in any litter bin will help put a stop to it, and make our streets cleaner and safer.”
The event was organised by the borough council, Frontis Housing Association, Birchwood town council and Stronger Together, who are asking for residents to be on the look out for irresponsible dog owners.
The council is urging the public to call 01925 443 322 if they have particular concerns about dog fouling in their area.
However it can be difficult to resolve dog fouling issues without information to help track the culprits down. All calls will be treated confidentially.
Details needed are: times when the owner walks their dog, location where the fouling has occurred, description of the dog and owner and registration of car, if known.

  1. Miss H sybil O'Kell on

In trefoil close we are experiencing dog fouling problems both 16 and 17 have had fouling in their garden and i am plagued with it nearly everyday at 17 it is dark when i go out to work and i end up with it on my shoe. we beleive it is one of the neighbours dogs across the road from us who just lets the dog out around 7.30am they only have a curtain for a door and the dog gets out and left to stray until it returns. this is a health problem I am diabetic and cando without the risk of dog poo infection and so is my neighbour at 18 she has already reported these incidents. can we have some signs placed in the street notification of fines

  2. Clearly this campaign by WBC is failing! There are dog owners in and around the vicinity of Lindley Ave, Latchford think it’s fine to let their dogs roam free on the streets to do their business wherever they like, including my front drive and lawn! Not only this, repeatedly I seem to pick up dog excrement on the wheels of my 19 month old daughter’s pram on our way home from nursery and I am sick of seeing dog s***t all over our streets. Dog owners seem to escape being fined for flouting our laws and it obviously isn’t being treated a seriously matter by WBC!!!! The diseases associated with this problem are horrendous; it has been estimated that a single gram of dog waste can contain 23 million fecal coliform bacteria, which are known to cause cramps, diarrhea, intestinal illness, and serious kidney disorders in humans. We need more dog bins, certainly more fresh warning signs on every street and actual fines, owners being prosecuted for the act of allowing their dogs to do this!

  3. You have my sympathy completely, same situation on Lindley Ave, Latchford, I am in contact with the council re. the matter, doubt it’ll even register on their radar!
