MOTORISTS are being urged to be patient as the New Balance English Half-Marathon returns to Warrington on Sunday October 3, with road clsoures starting as early as 5am.
More than 2000 runners are expected to take to the streets for the event, which will take place in the Warrington South area, and police are warning drivers about possible delays on roads in the area.
Sergeant Rick Weaver from Cheshire Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “We are once again urging drivers to be patient as some congestion, as with any event of this size, is inevitable.
“We are encouraging motorists to familiarise themselves with the route that the half-marathon will take and to be aware that road closures and diversions will be in place.
“Drivers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys on the morning of the event and to be alert as the roads will be busier than normal.
“The safety of the runners and other people using the roads during the event is paramount, wherever possible we will assist residents with essential access but we are asking for the co-operation of motorists in the area.”
Local roads in the area will have full/partial closures on them (see notes to editors at the bottom of this press release) however access for the emergency services will be maintained at all times.
The half-marathon starts at 9am on Sunday October 3rd from Victoria Park – road closures will be in place at various times between 5am and 2pm.
