Schools: Much to celebrate

ABOVE average Key Stage 1 results have been achieved by pupils in Warrington’s primary schools.
The results are “extremely gratifying” according to Coun Sheila Woodyatt, the borough council’s executive member for children’s services.
She said: “These results are extremely gratifying and show that Warrington continues to maintain and improve on high standards of education across the board.
“Well done to all our pupils and those people who support them.”
The measure of success for Key Stage 1 is the percentage of pupils achieving Level 2 or above at age seven.
For reading, Warrington’s percentage was 88, compared with the national average of 85.
For writing, Warrington was 84 percent compared with the national average of 81, for maths it was 92 percent compared with the national 89 and for science it was 92 percent compared with the national figure of 89.
Together with confirmation that every pupil at Warrington’s Horizon Centre pupil referral unit achieved at least one GCSE pass and coming on top of excellent A Level and GCSE results, council education chiefs say there is much to celebrate.
Key Stage 1 results are based on information supplied by schools on teacher assessment of children.
The teacher assessment covers reading, writing, speaking and listening, maths and science. It is moderated by the local authority to ensure teachers make consistent assessments of children’s work.
