Green belt house approved

PLANS to demolish a house on Green Belt land and replace it with a larger house have – unusually – been given the go-ahead.
Members of Warrington’s planning sub-committee approved the scheme at Orsett Cottage, Half Acre Lane, Thelwall after hearing of “special circumstances” – the fact that if they refused consent, permitted development rights would allow the applicant to extend the existing house to an even larger size.
Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council had objected to the scheme on the grounds it represented over-development in the Green Belt and that a similar scheme in Broad Lane, Grappenhall, had been refused at appeal.
Two residents also opposed the scheme on the grounds the existing property was a “lovely house” and should be saved
But officers, while accepting the plan represented a disproportionate increase in size, said this was outweighed by the special circumstances.
The case in Broad Lane was entirely different, they said.
No objection had been received from the immediate neighbours.
