Conservation area house approved

PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead to a scheme to demolish a house in Eagle Brow, Lymm and replace it with two detached houses.
Twelve nearby residents and Coun Ian Marks had opposed the scheme.
But members of the borough council’s planning sub-committee visited the site and eventually went along with the views of planning officers who said the proposal would “positively enhance” the character and appearance of the Eagle Brow Conservation Area.
The objectors claimed the development, which involves the demolition of 27 Eagle Brow, would damage the conservation area, rob houses in Church Road of privacy and result in the loss of one of the best examples of Victorian architecture in Lymm.
They were also concerned at the loss of valuable trees.
Coun Marks said the scheme would have a detrimental effect on the conservation area because of the loss of views and increased density of building. He was also concerned about access onto Eagle Brow where cars frequently park in the street.
Officers said the house to be demolished is an “unremarkable building” which neither enhances nor preserves the character of the conservation area.
