POLICE are working with organisers on safety and security in readiness for 40,000 fans descending on the Warrington area for the fifth annual Creamfields Music Festival at Daresbury.
All visitors will be searched. There will be a weapons and drugs amnesty with drugs dogs being used and there will be late night police patrols around campsite areas to ensure safety.
Planning for the policing of the event, on the Bank Holiday weekend August 28-29 started months ago with a dedicated team of officers and staff involved.
One of the police team, Nicola Linder said: “Cheshire Police has once again been working closely alongside the organisers of the event, the two local authorities, parish councils and other agencies to ensure the event runs safely and smoothly.
“We have also been working closely alongside the local community to minimise any disruption in the local area, to ensure that residents are fully informed of the planning process and to provide reassurance and advice before, during and after the event – addressing any issues or concerns they might have.”
The policing operation will start at 7pm on Friday August 27 and will run until around 2pm on Monday August 30.
Officers will undertake a variety of roles including dealing with incidents of crime and disorder and patrolling camp sites to provide reassurance to campers, deter thieves and support security staff.
Off site police will be involved in traffic management and policing in the local community.
Detective Sergeant Simon Newell said: “Security will be tight and we are urging festival goers to familiarise themselves with the security measures that will be in place on the site.
“Searches are a condition of entry and drugs dogs will be used at the entrances to the site. Anyone found with drugs or weapons, having not placed them into the amnesty bins which will be provided at the entrances, will be dealt with by police.”
Festival goers will be urged to report any incidents over the weekend to officers at an on-site “police station”.
