Planners think twice on homes scheme

OBJECTIONS from nearby residents have persuaded planning chiefs at Warrington to think twice before approving plans to demolish a house and replace it with two detached houses.
Members of the borough council’s planning sub-committee will visit the site in Eagle Brow, Lymm before reaching a decision.
Officers say the proposal will “positively enhance” the character and appearance of the Eagle Brow Conservation Area.
But 12 nearby residents, backed by Coun Ian Marks, have lodged objections.
They claim the development, which would involve the demolition of 27 Eagle Brow, would damage the conservation area, rob houses in Church Road of privacy and spoil one of the best examples of Victorian architecture in Lymm.
They are also concerned at the loss of valuable trees.
Coun Marks says the scheme would have a detrimental effect on the conservation area because of loss of views and increased density of building. He is also concerned about access onto Eagle Brow where cars frequently park in the street.
Officers say the house to be demolished is an unremarkable building which neither enhances nor preserves the character of the conservation area.
The matter will be considered again at the next meeting of the committee.
