Youth carnival drew the crowds

MORE than 1,300 young people attended Warrington’s second youth carnival with activities ranging from tai-chi to tightrope walking.
Young people and their families enjoyed the event at Queens Gardens. There was music from live bands and MCs, and the chance to try BMX-ing, fashion design, falconry and circus skills.
Andrea Thomson from the Youth Federation encouraged young people to express their creativity while learning about recycling by making and displaying clothes.
The event was organised by the council’s youth support service in partnership with voluntary youth organisations and young people.
Youth Parliament member Ryan Barnes said: “Everyone was so enthusiastic about this event, and it’s been great seeing everyone pull together to organise it. It’s a brilliant opportunity to try something new.”
Deputy Youth Parliament member Tom Jennings said: “The music is the big thing that’s drawn people here, but it’s great that young people are able to come and get help and advice in a social environment.”
Organisations taking part included Air Cadets, Orford, Padgate, Birchwood and Warrington Youth Clubs, the Relationships Centre and the Foundation for Peace.
Coun Kelly Simcock said: “It was great to see so many people there, in spite of the weather! I think it’s important that we invest in our young people and it’s great to see so many organisations coming together to do just that.
“There are lots more people here than there were at last year’s carnival and I hope to see this kind of increase year on year.”
