A GROUP of 40 pupils from Warrington have been working to ensure their schools are equipped for teaching and learning in the 21st century.
William Beamont, Penketh, Lysander and Sir Thomas Boteler high schools were last year accepted onto the
Government’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) development programme.
Although there are now uncertainties over the programme, due to the economic situation, the pupils have been working with the Sorrell Foundation – an organisation which aims to inspire young people – to help develop their schools. As part of this they visited both London and Manchester in search of inspiration and ideas for the design of their new schools.
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, the borough council’s executive member for education and young people, said: “I am immensely proud of all the young people who are involved in this project. Their vision, forward thinking and drive will take Warrington forward as the best place to learn in the north west.
“As a council we will do whatever it takes to ensure that the brief they present is followed as closely as possible.”
The group presented their ideas to senior council officers, members, their peers, teachers and parents at a celebration event at the Pyramid Arts Centre. The key themes were creation of inspiring and colourful learning environments, more comfortable/ adaptable furniture and better toilets.
